My dad fell asleep at the wheel of a 1976 Mercedes 450SEL and ended up with three broken ribs and one hundred stitches in his head. His car ended up under the drive wheels of an 18 wheeler at highway speeds…head on.

Yes, this is the first accident where I was injured, this is the one where I broke a bunch of bones.
Yes, I am extremely lucky to be alive, extremely lucky that I recovered from that accident to dance, skate, ski, hike, rock climb, go hang gliding, and ride a motorcycle.

He survived, but he has since died of a stroke at 69 in 1999. At least that’s that’s what we and the NTSB think.
He had a private pilot’s license and lived an hour and a half away from his clinic. So he would often fly to work instead of drive.
He loved to fly so he didn’t need much motivation to fly instead of drive. The drive was through southern Arkansas deer country and he had hit three in a six month period. This was the motivation for buying a plane.
Then one Saturday morning the ceiling at the airport was low enough that he couldn’t find the runway. They heard him circling the airport. He gained altitude so the little rock radar could locate him. In fact, that’s how they ultimately located the crash site. They started looking straight down from that point in space–they had been searching near the Eldorado airport when the crash site was nearly twenty miles away in the woods. They think he might have had a stroke at that point and collapsed on the yoke and “flew” straight into the ground.
It’s been nearly 17 years and I do miss him, but I can talk about it now without getting all broken up

Lisa Borel I had commented on a post of yours last year sometime about a photo of a Shelby coupe. Sometime later I noticed that I wasn’t able to comment any longer…did you get harassed and tighten up your posts? I’m pretty sure I didn’t do anything that would’ve caused that. That’s why I posted this as a post.

First wreck? I’ve been very lucky to have never been hurt any of my accidents. I’ve had several. All fairly low speed
